Junoon Rocks Cornell


Junoon enjoyed performing a historic sold out concert at Cornell University in Ithaca,New York last night.The event organised by the Pakistani and Indian student associations of Cornell was a colorful and ecstatic display of Sufi-Rock and south asian music and poetry.The crowd's hospitality and warmth brought the best out of the whole band who were in fine form.Salman Ahmad.Samir Chatterjee,John Alec and Sunny Jain rocked the Bailey auditorium for an electric 90 minute set of emotion and virtuosity which overwhelmed the crowd.At one point during the show hundreds of young under-grads jumped onstage singing and dancing uncontrollably to the strains of 'Saeein','Sayonee' and 'Jazba Junoon'.The band also jammed on Eric Clapton's 'Sunshine of Your Love' and played hits like 'Bulleya','Mahi' and Heeray' during its high octane set. Salman also announced his new song with Academy and Grammy award winning American artist,Melissa Etheridge called Ring The Bells.Salman will join Melissa's band to perform Ring The Bells and two other songs at the Hard Rock Casino in Atlantic city,NJ on November 8 (saturday) .The event is alread sold out and the concert will be recorded live for an American TV telecast around Christmas.Melissa and Salman are also planning to shoot a video for Ring The Bells to paint an alternative picture to the violence and wars that are being waged in the Muslim world. Salman told the large student crowd to vote for Obama on November 4th and closed the concert with Iqbal's Khudi.He shouted out a message for the Cornell Junoonis to follow their Passion,share it with others and change the world with it
