More tests after Jackson autopsy

Determining the cause of Michael Jackson's death could take several weeks, a coroner has said, as fans continued to pay tribute to the singer.
An autopsy had been conducted but further tests were required that could take up to six weeks, the coroner said.
But he said foul play and trauma had been ruled out in the death of Jackson, who died on Thursday at the age of 50.
Entertainers and world leaders have all been paying tribute to the deceased star.
Singers Madonna and Justin Timberlake praised his talent, while a spokesman for Barack Obama said that the US president saw Jackson as a "music icon".
'Additional testing'
Los Angeles County coroner's spokesman Craig Harvey said police had put a security hold on Jackson's case, limiting the amount of information that can be released.
LA County coroner's office statement following the autopsy
He said a three-hour autopsy had been held but the cause of death had been deferred.
"It means that the medical examiner ordered additional testing such as toxicology and other studies," Mr Harvey said.
The tests would take between four to six weeks, at which point he anticipated being able to close the case, he said.
Jackson, who had a history of health problems, collapsed at his Los Angeles home around midday on Thursday.
A recording of the telephone call made to emergency services has been released, in which the caller said Jackson was unconscious and had stopped breathing.
His personal doctor - who witnessed his collapse - was trying to revive him, the caller said.

Tributes paid to Michael Jackson
The singer was pronounced dead two hours later at the UCLA medical centre. Jackson's brother, Jermaine, said he was believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest.
Family lawyer Brian Oxman told US TV that he had been concerned about the star's use of pain relief medication.
He told ABC's Good Morning America programme that Jackson took prescription pain relief for injuries sustained earlier in his career.
"It caused him great pain. He just didn't like to feel such discomfort. He started taking pain medication. It became part of his life," he said.
A spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department said investigators had spoken to Jackson's personal doctor briefly on Thursday, but they wanted to speak to him again.
Police also said a car owned by a doctor had been towed away from Jackson's home.
A spokeswoman said the doctor was not under criminal investigation, but said the car could contain "medications or other evidence that may assist the coroner in determining the cause of death".
The star had been due to stage 50 concerts at the O2 arena in London, beginning on 13 July.
Across the world, people have been voicing shock and disbelief at the news of his death. In Hollywood, thousands of people filed past his star on the Walk of Fame.
A White House spokesman said US President Barack Obama considered Jackson a spectacular performer, but said he felt parts of his life were "sad and tragic".
Former Beatle Paul McCartney described Jackson as a massively talented boy-man with a gentle soul.
Biggest seller
Jackson began his career as a child in family group The Jackson 5.
He went on to achieve global fame as a solo artist with smash hits such as Billie Jean and Bad.
Thriller, released in 1982, is the biggest-selling album of all time, shifting 65m copies, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

He scored seven UK number ones as a solo artist and won a total of 13 Grammy awards.
"For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don't have the words," said Quincy Jones, who produced Thriller, Bad and Off The Wall.
"He was the consummate entertainer and his contributions and legacy will be felt upon the world forever. I've lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him."
Jackson fans react to news of his death
The singer had been dogged by controversy and money trouble in recent years, becoming a virtual recluse.
He was arrested in 2003 on charges of molesting a 14-year-old boy, but was found not guilty following a five-month trial.
The star had three children, Michael Joseph Jackson Jr, Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince Michael Jackson II.
Jackson's former wife Debbie Rowe is the mother of two of the children, and there is already speculation about who will gain custody of them.
He is survived by his mother, Katherine, father, Joseph and eight siblings - including Janet, Randy, Jermaine and La Toya Jackson.

Mariah to tread the boards in London

Mariah Carey is to star in a London stage show.
The 'Obsessed’ singer has reportedly landed a £15,000-a-week contract to appear in an unnamed production in London’s West End theatre district from next spring.A source told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper:

'Mariah’s done a bit of acting in her time but nothing on this scale.'She was hugely flattered to have been asked and is determined to nail the part.

She is pretty confident in her own abilities.'And although there has been talk of musicals, Mariah has always wanted to star in a play so this really is a dream come true.'This is not the first time Mariah has been linked with a British theatre role.

In 2005, it was reported she was house-hunting in the UK to find a base while she was appearing in a musical version of 'The Prince And The Showgirl' but the role never materialised.

The following year, Mariah revealed plans to create a Christmas musical using tracks from her 1994 album 'Merry Christmas'.

The script was set to be penned by 'High School Musical' writer Peter Barsocchini. It was claimed in 2008 that the 39-year-old star’s life story is to be made into a musical.

A source said: "A huge, huge Broadway producer is interested in Mariah's story and it's in discussions.'

Coke Studio Great Show In Pakistan

Music & Entertainment is a major and perhaps the most popular source, Pakistan has, to connect itself with the outside world. Major T.V. shows, Designers, Drama Serials, Music Celebs etc. have made their way through the roads of success in the past few years. Thus, exploring and making places in hearts, round the globe.
One such attempt was made last year, when a popular show named THE COKE STUDIO, made a breakthrough appearance on our television screens. Coke Studio was a unique introduction; to bring all major Pakistani artists under one roof and perform live resultantly, touching billions of hearts right away. Every episode was an immense hit for the fact that live performances are very rare in Pakistan and this idea had really boosted the young spirit to watch every bit of it.
Rohail Hayat , the man behind this great idea has put forward a marvelous attempt to promote Pakistani music, knitting together , folk music and pop artists along with a wide range of instruments and background singers, indeed creating a history altogether.
The first season of Coke Studio gave some beautiful fusion of rock artists with folk legends, examples being Ali Azmat & Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, singing Garaj Baras with an eastern touch. Ali Zafar &Tuffail Ahmed performing Allah Hoo and the famous Abida Parveen sprinkling in her traditional innocence. Yet, the feel was created by the men at dholaks, guitars, drums, matkas and a series of other instruments so hats off to the entire team of musicians.
The history creating popularity and approbation of season 1 has motivated the team to ignite the passion of music, yet again in the studio, this summer. This season is featuring some of the magnificent singing stars including; Ali Zafar, Noori, Josh, Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan, Strings, Zeb & Haniya etc. In addition, Season 2 introduces a different band of musicians with all new innovative series of episodes.
The television promos witnessed on air are giving a glimpse of the most popular rock show and June 14th 2009, is the day, for the party to begin. Unfortunately, the launch of the 2nd season had some major blunders & didn’t convey the essence of the project; I’m still looking forward to this great show because whatever the drawbacks, season 1 had rocked completely.
It has to be admitted that Rohail Hayat’s passion and Coke’s backup has created a new vision where corporations are joining hands with the entertainment industry, providing a perfect source of brand popularity. As Coke plans to revitalize itself from just a soft drink brand to brand of hearts, I think Coke Studio is an ideal collaboration for the attainment of their goal.
Today human brains have turned into dull working machines filled with exhausting work, boring TV shows and news with the tarka of tension in them. So Coke is providing an opportunity for all you guys to sit back grab a coke and watch, The Coke Studio Season 2 where folk would be meeting pop, giving us some extravagant piece of entertainment. Hope this season brings more touchy performances that may live in the hearts of people, for years to come. Let Coke happiness & thrilling music, rule your mind, this year…!!

Salman Ahmed, the lead singer of the popular Pakistani band Junoon

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Thousands of civilians trapped in Pakistan’s northwest Frontier Province, where the military is pounding Taliban insurgents, face ‘humanitarian catastrophe’ unless help reaches them soon, the New York-based Human Rights Watch said late last month. “The government cannot allow the local population to remain trapped without food, clean water and medicine as a tactic to defeat the Taliban,” said Brad Adams, the group’s Asia director. Reports of civilians killed in the crossfire continued to flood in, the group said, as people desperately try to find food and water for their families, or try and escape the aerial and ground bombardments.

Keynote speaker Salman Ahmed, the lead singer of the popular Pakistani band Junoon, passionately addressed the sea of supporters, particularly the youth. “I want all the young people out here today to at least take away one thing from this rally,” he said. “As Pakistani Americans, we need to make a sacrifice for our country and our people back home. Educate yourselves and your friends about the situation and encourage people to support through donations. With these efforts, we will be on our way to making Pakistan a safe and peaceful country.”The Government of Pakistan has established a Prime Minister’s Special Fund for victims and the Consulate General of Pakistan in Los Angeles has opened a universal bank account to collect donations. The military launched its operation in the districts of Lower Dir on April 26, Buner on April 28 and Swat on May 8, after Taliban fighters advanced to within 100 kilometers (about 62 miles) of Islamabad.

Britney's circus rolls into town

Pop princess Britney Spears last night brought her raunchy new act to the Irish public as she hit the stage in Dublin.
The star singer was in the Irish capital last night for the first of two concerts at the O2 Arena.
Fans and followers will be wondering if wedding bells might once again be in the air for the singer after her previous visit to Ireland ended in an engagement.
Five years ago she got his-and-hers tattoos on her wrist with beau Kevin Federline, before the pair got engaged on their return flight to the US.
The latest tour has seen her donning risque apparel for her stage act, including a blindfold, a sexy dominatrix outfit and a whip before being thrown into a cage by muzzled, leather-clad men.
Spears is travelling in style for the show, with her tour party staying in three of Dublin’s top hotels — the Morrison, the Merrion and the Four Seasons.
Her 100-plus strong entourage includes 60 dancers, her band and road crew as well as her young sons, Jayden James and Sean Preston.
However, it has been reported that one hotel refused outright to a request to install a stripper pole during her stay.
Spears will also be performing in Paris, Moscow and Berlin before returning to the US for a number of dates later this summer. Since hitting the charts ten years ago with her hit single Baby One More Time, Spears has become one of the world’s biggest selling female artists.
But she has become well-known for her recent personal problems, including drug rehabilitation and shaving her head in 2007.

Scarlett Johansson to play 'The Bride of Frankenstein'

Scarlett Johansson is set to star in a remake of 'The Bride of Frankenstein'. The 24-year-old blonde bombshell is tipped to portray a sexier version of the terrifying female monster in an updated version of the original 1935 horror movie.

A source said: "The Bride of Frankenstein will be young this time. They're looking for a person with great power and sex appeal. Someone along the lines of Scarlett Johansson or Anne Hathaway."

The wild-haired bride was originally played by English actress Elsa Lanchester. The film follows on from 'Frankenstein' - which sees Dr. Frankenstein bring a 'human' to life from separate body parts - and sees the doctor create a partner for the monster.

However, when Dr. Frankenstein brings the bride to life, she rejects the monster. Neil Burger - who previously worked on 'The Illusionist' - is set to director the movie and pen the script. Guillermo del Toro recently revealed he is planning to begin work on a new version of 'Frankenstein', based on Mary Shelley's novel.

Diana Krall Quiet Nights

Diana Krall’s voice is legendary and for all the right reasons. She can 'put over’ a song as well as the great singers that have gone before and she does it with her own take on classics in such a way as to make you begin to forget the originals. The songs here – 'Where or When’, 'Every Time We Say Goodbye’, 'Walk On By’ et al – are all songs that have been part of the lexicon of 'ordinary’ singers and have all suffered by the tortuous mishandling that they have received in pubs and bars around the world. What Ms Krall is doing here is to give these songs back to us in a new way and in such a manner as to erase the memory of those screeching and caterwauling triers.Just listen to her take on 'Where or When’ – a brilliant song by Rodgers and Hart but no-one ever listens to the words as a love song. Or 'I’ve Grown Accustomed To Your Face’ which we can all relate as the Rex Harrison hambone from 'My Fair Lady’; but as a burning love song and a wistful daydream of a close love? For my money the definitive version of 'Walk On By’ is was and always will be the version by Issac Hayes but this version is the first I’ve heard in years that gave me that frisson, that shiver down the back, the song is capable of. Song after song here that simply make you understand once again what the seductive appeal of the combination of bossa nova and a great song are all about. This is Diana Krall’s love letter to her husband and it is exactly what it says on the cover – ideal for quiet nights with a lover – but it is also a completely convincing collection

Rancid Let the dominoes fall

This isn’t quite RANCID – more green around the edges. Rancid are supposed to be shambolic and hardcore punk rebellion with edges and jagged bits but this has the sharp bits smoothed off and the holocaust of sound reduced to a bit of a rumble.

There are a few real Rancid numbers – 'Up To No Good’ has echoes of their ska-punk origins and a great keyboard line, 'Damnation’ kicks ass like The Damned and 'The Bravest Kids’ has a real Pogue-ish feel to it while the single 'Last One To Die’ is classic dumb-ass punk – and they have got a feeling of real energy at times but, and this is the big but, there were times I thought I was listening to Blink 182 and that is close to a crime in my book.

I really wanted this to be classic West Coast hardcore and to live up to all that Rancid mean but it falls short while still being better than most – nearly but not the real deal.

Trent Reznor says Bonnaroo was last-ever US show

Trent Reznor announced during his band’s set at Bonnaroo over the weekend that it was Nine Inch Nails last-ever show in the US.The band performed after Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band on the second night (June 13) of the Tennessee festival, and Reznor made the announcement saying:"It just dawned on me that this is our last show ever in the United States. Don't be sad. I'll keep going. But I think I'm going to lose my ... mind if I keep doing this, and I have to stop," reports the Associated Press. The band recently wrapped up their tour of North America with and will continue the outing internationally this summer.

AND>>>For Nine Inch Nails front man Trent Reznor, social networking is not working.
Which might seem strange to hear from a man who was presented this week with a special achievement award at the Webbys.
Still, in a blog post written Wednesday, Reznor seems to have come to an emotional fork in the road with Web 2.0. And he's decided to stick the fork in it.
"I will be tuning out of the social networking sites because at the end of the day it's now doing more harm than good in the bigger picture and the experiment seems to have yielded a result. Idiots rule," he said.
Reznor is very forthright about the kind of idiots he has in mind. For him, they have ruined the beauty of eschewing record companies in favor of direct contact with real people out there.
His first example of idiocracy are posts to the Nine Inch Nails site: "On nin.com, there's 3-4 different people that each send me between 50 - 100 message per day of delusional, often threatening nonsense. We can delete them, but they just sign back up and start again."

Trent's embrace of social networking is over.(Credit: CC Edvill/Flickr)
Reznor's experience on Twitter sounds, if anything, even more disturbing: "Looks like the Metal Sludge contingency has discover Twitter! Finally! For those of you that don't know what this is, please let me explain. Metal Sludge is the home of the absolutely worst people I've ever come across. It's populated mainly by unattractive plump females who publicly fantasize about having sex with guys in bands."
It transpires that many of these alleged "worst people" are folks that Reznor recognizes from his shows.
"I really don't understand what kind of 'fan' spends that kind of time and money to travel across the country seeing a band, to then dedicate an incredible amount of time and energy into non-stop hate diatribes online," he said.
Humanity is not a pretty thing, Trent. Some of your music paints that at a very high level of decibel and clarity. Still, Reznor considered starting up a public forum where everyone's identity could be verified.
However, in the end, he appears to have given up on the whole social-networking thing. And he blames the lunge for lucre: "We're in a world where the mainstream social networks want any and all people to boost user numbers for the big selloff and are not concerned with the quality of experience."

Japan Famous Pop Singer: Namie Amuro

Namie Amuro is a Japanese singer, dancer, and former child actor/singer, who, at the height of her popularity, was referred to as the “Teen Queen [of Japan]” and the “Queen of Japanese pop music”. Amuro debuted at the age of fourteen as an idol in the girl group Super Monkey’s. Though mostly unsuccessful, the group gained popularity during their final year together with the single “Try Me: Watashi o Shinjite” (1995). Amuro left Toshiba-EMI after releasing two more solo singles; she continued her music career as a solo singer with the then-small independent label Avex Trax. Under the guidance of producer Tetsuya Komuro, Amuro quickly became a commercial success, producing several million-selling records and starting several fashion trends. Her single “Can You Celebrate?” (1997) became Japan’s best selling single by a solo female artist. However, in late 1997, Amuro put her career on hold to focus on her pregnancy and engagement. She returned to music in 1998 with the number-one single, “I Have Never Seen”, but faced slowly declining sales. She unofficially severed ties with Tetsuya Komuro in 2001, shortly after taking on the project Suite Chic that would transform her from a pop idol to a R&B artist. Since reinventing herself, Amuro has achieved newfound interest. Her latest studio album, Play (2007) debuted at the top of the charts and was followed by “60s 70s 80s” (2008), her first number-one single in ten years. Over a decade since her musical debut, Amuro has remained one of the longest surviving popular female acts in Japan. She is the only Japanese female artist to have achieved a Top 10 single each year for fourteen consecutive years. She also continues to successfully combat social stigma as a divorced, working, single mother. On July 30, 2008, Amuro released her first greatest hits album, Best Fiction, since transitioning to R&B music. It spent six consecutive weeks at the number-one position on the Japan’s Oricon weekly charts, and was elected as “the best album of the year” at the 50th Japan Record Awards. Later this year, she is touring Japan in support of the album. Estimates predict that she could play to an audience as high as 400,000, potentially the largest audience of her career.

Pakistan Pop Legend Najam Sheraz

Fourteen years and ten albums behind him in his successful music career, Najam Sheraz is more energetic and optimistic for the future than ever before. 2009 will be the most important year yet for Najam, for he has plans to change the world through his music. This spring, Najam will begin his much anticipated 2009 ONLY LOVE World Tour, with stops in India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Italy, Bulgaria, Great Britian, United States and Canada. This tour has been inspired by his moving peace anthem ONLY LOVE, which he has presented internationally, at LA Convention Center, London's Excel and at Islamabad Stadium during the Olympic Torch Ceremony for the 2008 Beijing Games. His message is simple: "Do you believe what I believe? Do you feel what I feel? This is the time to forget the past, let's give each other a chance. Only love can break the chains. Only love can save the day." These are the chorus lyrics of his peace song ONLY LOVE, which he sings with deep conviction and hopes his listeners also take to heart and put into action. With the planet's survival in the fragile balance, Najam believes we can't wait around any longer for peace to just happen; each of us must take on the responsibility for peace on an individual basis. This good news of the individual's power to make a difference through love is what Najam plans to deliver to fans on his world tour.

Please introduce yourself to our readers:I am a singer, song writer, producer and a peace worker. Tell us where you grew up, your education and family? I grew up in an ancient city of Multan, Pakistan. I attended UET Engineering University in Lahore to study Civil Engineering; however, I never finished my degree. I am the youngest of four sisters and three brothers. When did you become interested in music? And how did you enter the music scene?I don’t exactly remember when, but I have always been interested in music. My brother Salman was a better singer, but he was a bit shy to be the front man, so he pushed me in the front from the drum kit. Did your family support your decision to become a musician? They encouraged and appreciated, but they wanted me to become an engineer. However, I don’t believe in fall back plans... Your first song ‘In Sai Nain’ received a good response and was a hit, how many songs and albums have you released since then?I have sung the most number of national songs, and have released about ten albums and numerous singles; including the National Anthem of Pakistan. Do you write and compose the music yourself or do you have a team that helps you?I write, compose and co-produce as well. You have recently been touring Europe and North America tell us what you have been promoting and what response have you received?I always promote peace and harmony through my interviews, concerts, videos and my music. In 2008, it was promoted through the new album ‘Najam’. What projects or albums are you currently working on? I am working on launching an antiwar campaign worldwide with my first English single 'Only Love'. Pakistan has come a long way in music, where do you see Pakistani music in the next ten years?I forsee the Pakistani music industry dying badly if we don't muster up all that we have, which includes our advertising industry, corporate sponsors and satellite channels. We’ll have to do this or we’ll just become a market for the Indian and the International market. Pakistan has produced many great singers, who in your opinion is the best and why?My criteria of best is way too high than the local standards, so I won’t answer that, but all have worked very hard, especially those who have sustained from the 90's without the support of the Indian media. The Indian film industry can make you a star in one day, but to sustain more than a decade, you need to be constantly growing and strong. Besides music what are you interests and hobbies?I study comparative religions, explore different cities and people. I also voluntarily work for a great platform known as www.arrahman-arraheem.com, and have been awarded congressional recognition twice. I like to watch movies as well… What advice would you give to the youngsters who want to follow in your footsteps?Be honest with your job, and deliver 100%. Keep your standards high and think of ways to contribute to society and Pakistan. Lastly your message to the readers? If you don't support goodness, you already have supported evil so each and everyone of us is responsible to counter the evil and the biggest evil of this time is corruption and war, both of which are interrelated. Let’s unite our spirits and efforts, only love can break the chains, only love can save the day. Do you believe what I believe…

Breaking & Entering: Cage The Elephant

After landing a deal with Jive Records and impressing crowds at SXSW and Bamboozle, Cage the Elephant has found chart success with its first single, “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked,” and self-titled album. The latter debuted at No. 171 on the Billboard Hot 200 -- it currently sits at No. 100 and has earned Heatseeker Graduate status -- while the single has sold 59,000 downloads and is perched at No. 5 on the Modern Rock radio airplay chart. Cage the Elephant was formed in 2005 by lead singer Matt Shultz and guitarist Brad Shultz in Bowling Green, Ky., where the brothers were only allowed to listen to religious music growing up. “We were really sheltered as far as listening to secular music,” says the frontman, who adds that it wasn’t until his parents divorced that he and his brother started sneaking rock music into the house. “The first record I ever had was ‘Jimi Hendrix: Live at Woodstock.’” The band’s influences range from Pixies and Chuck Berry to The Ramones, Nirvana and others. To complete their lineup, the Shultz brothers recruited childhood friends: drummer Jared Champion, guitarist Lincoln Parrish and bassist Daniel Tichenor, who one day showed up to rehearsal with a bass and amp after the original bassist left to pursue education. After landing on the bill for Lollapalooza bill and opening for Queens of the Stone Age in 2007, Cage the Elephant left its small-town roots for the UK in the hopes of building more visibility in a smaller territory. The band has lived in Europe for a little under two years and first released its album in 2008 on British indie label Relentless, before its stateside release on May 19 of this year. "Cage the Elephant" was produced by Jay Joyce (Patty Griffin, Rubyhorse), who Shultz says “was very involved in the creative process," and the lyrics were co-written by all four band members, who Shultz says took turns writing parts of each song before everyone would shape the final result together. “It is not worth writing songs that are on the surface as far as exterior pleasures and stuff like that,” he says. Shultz cites his favorite songs on the album as “Tiny Little Robots,” “Back Against the Wall” and “Lotus,” which contains references to religion and war.

Pakistan's Great Vocalist Shafkat Amanat Ali

May 29: The concert kicked off on a laid back note. As composer-musician extraordinaire Habib declared, the mood was romantic, and it doesn't get mushier than "Hridoy-er kotha" (from the "Hridoy-er Kotha" soundtrack). It was a good start. The audience, comprising mostly youngsters, started swaying and humming along with the star musician at Winter Garden, Dhaka Sheraton Hotel.
As the artiste warmed up, so did his fans. With "Tumi bhuley jeona amakey," more whistles and 'wah wahs' were heard. Habib then took it up a notch with more sugary pop -- "Keno emon hoy" and "Bhalobashbo tomaye"; it could've easily been mistaken for a Valentine's Day special. Teens and tweens went wild.
To the relief of those in the audience who craved "real" music, the artiste performed "Krishno" (written and originally composed by Shah Abdul Karim), his claim to fame. Vocal prowess is perhaps not the artiste's strong suit but he seemed to be on top of his game at the show. One particular musician accompanying Habib who must be mentioned, is Jalal. The flutist created a total ambiance (and then some). When the flute dukes it out with vocals for the limelight, the audience is in music heaven. Its high time virtuoso musicians like him got solos.
Fusion of traditional Bangla folk music with contemporary techno and urban beats (mainly hip-hop, reggae, rap and electronica) is Habib's forte and he was totally in his elements as he performed the Hason Raja classic "Baula ke banailo rey."
Habib also sang his most recent smash hit "Didha" (from the "Third Person Singular Number" soundtrack) and the ever-popular "Din gelo."
Pakistani band Fuzön (pronounced 'fusion') took the stage next. With songs titled "Khamaj," "Malhaar" and "Madvanti," it doesn't take a seasoned connoisseur to figure out that the band's area of interest is North Indian classical music. That's how Fuzön describes its music: union of classical and contemporary rock music. Over the last few years, the band's popularity has transcended the borders of Pakistan. Though, Fuzön is quite regular in the Indian music scene, this was the band's first live performance in Bangladesh.
With Shallum Xavier on the guitar, Imran Momina (aka "Emu") on keyboard and Rameez Mukhtar on the mic, the band received a warm response from the Dhaka audience as it performed "Neend na aaye (from the band's second studio album "Journey").
As Mukhtar took on the song "Tere bina" (from Fuzön's debut album "Saagar"), Shafqat Amanat Ali was missed. Ali (the previous lead vocalist of the band), with his impeccable base in classical music, was the driving force behind the band's burgeoning popularity in the initial phase.

Jack Penate

Born and bred in South-East London and from English/Spanish descent, Jack Penate came into the limelight in 2007, after being seen rubbing pop shoulders with fellow London-newcomers Kate Nash and Adele, on numerous occasions. His debut album, Matinee debuted in the top ten in October 2007.

Miloco Releases
Released 8th October 2007
Jack Penate - 'Matinee' After grabbing the public's attention by officially 'tearing it up on the platform' this summer, Mr Penate is ready to hurl the rest of the pack at them. Prepare yourself for a stampede of hip-shaking indie pop from one of the star discoveries of the year. Interface's Finn Eiles engineered a selection of tracks off 'Matinee', using Miloco's Square studio for both tracking and mixing.
When Jack Peñate spasmodically side-stepped on to the scene like an epileptic crab in 2006, detractors quickly lumped him in with the jangly Mockneys dominating indie clubs at the time, along with acts like pals The Maccabees and Kate Nash. Despite the irritatingly frenetic pace of his debut album, many listeners were moved to admit that somewhere beneath the non-stop knees-up lay the work of a genuinely gifted songwriter. And with Everything is New, he’s let that songwriter out of the armlock and off the dancefloor, where he’s crafted a considered yet catchy collection of blue-eyed future soul. That affected London whine has been abandoned somewhere in a Hoxton basement and replaced with a more natural, Robert Smith-like croon. Producer Paul “Phones” Epworth has created a warm, expansive environment to win over the coldest of critics, and highlights like the title track or Tonight’s Today represent a mature and eminently likeable new Jack Peñate.

Dave Matthews Band, Iggy Pop, Vanessa Williams and more

Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King" is the first studio album from Dave Matthews Band in four years. But completing it took a tragic turn after longtime sax player LeRoi Moore passed away suddenly in summer 2008. However, when the group reconvened in New Orleans to continue, they were able to integrate much of the material Moore had laid down in earlier sessions. And paying homage to their fallen comrade revitalized and redoubled their creative efforts. Produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance), with album artwork by Matthews, "Big Whiskey" is already being praised as some of DMB's strongest work. "If this is the last album that I ever make, it's the only album that I hope people listen to," says Matthews.
Listen to "Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King" in the
Dave Matthews Band will likely bow at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart next week with "Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King," which industry prognosticators are suggesting could sell as much as 390,000 in its first week. If it debuts at No. 1, the RCA set will be the band's fifth straight studio album to do so.(The band celebrated the album's release with a concert at the relatively intimate Beacon Theater in New York. Be sure to check out Billboard's extensive interview with Dave Matthews.)The act's last studio release, 2005's "Stand Up," entered with 465,000. Its three earlier offerings -- 2002's "Busted Stuff," 2001's "Everyday" and 1998's "Before These Crowded Streets" -- all also started with more than 400,000 in their debut weeks."GrooGrux" also leads the Nielsen SoundScan Building Chart that was released on June 3, which reflected unweighted sales through the close of business on Tuesday, June 2. Billboard estimates the seven merchants who report to Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart -- Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, iTunes, Starbucks, Borders, Target and Anderson Merchandisers -- comprise about 60% of all U.S. album sales.

Estelle lines up star producers

Estelle has revealed she's working with a number of producers on her new album.
Wyclef Jean, Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am and TV On The Radio's Dave Sitek have all begun work on the follow-up to 2008's Shine.
The singer wouldn't confirm whether rapper Kanye West would appear on the LP, as he did on number one single American Boy.
Estelle said: "I'm just recording this new album, I'm sick of singing American Boy, so I should do something new."
Estelle confirmed a number of big name producers have begun helping her work on new material.
"Swizz Beatz, Wyclef, I think we're going in with will.i.am next week again.

"It's going great, big songs, big hooks. More of the same, but some freshness. Big producers, same thing."
A title and release date have yet to be confirmed for the album.

Madam Abida Parveen From South Asia Pakistan...

Saieen Zahoor’s melodious voice resonated these beautiful verses over the strains of the ek-tara on a balmy summer evening at Peeru’s Café in Lahore, recently.
The event was the three-day Mystic Music Sufi Festival by the Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop (RPTW) and the timing was perfect. Never has the message of Sufism been as relevant for Pakistan as now. But we shall come to that later.
The festival brought together some great performers of Sufi music and poetry including some new ones. These included Fakir Abdul Wahid, Taj Mastani, Shah Jo Rag Fakirs, Akbar Khamiso Khan and Jamal Din Fakir from Sindh; Saieen Zahoor, Surraiya Multanikar, Surraiya Khanum, Rizwan Moazzam Qawwal, Iqbal Bahoo, Imran Aziz Qawwal, Ustad Hussain Bux Gullu, Sher Miandad, Ghulam Muhammad Chand, Wahdat and Hasnain, Chand and Sooraj Khan, Pappu Saieen, Goonga and Mithu Saieen, Mehmood Farid Qawwal, Mansoor Malangi and Allah Ditay Lonay Wala from Punjab; Akhtar Chinar Zehri from Balochistan and Zarsanga from NWFP. However, disappointment for fans of Abida Parveen loomed large as she couldn’t make it to the event due to a delayed flight after her string of concerts in the UAE.

Abida Parveen is a rarity in the world of Sufi music, a female lead performer. She is the daughter of prominent Pakistani vocalist Ustad Ghulam Haider, who (somewhat bravely) ignored convention and allowed her to study under him, and she also accompanied him to various religious performances. After a time developing her abilities, she married Ustad Hussein Sheikh, an influential producer from radio pakistan, who also helped her further her career.

Although he was born in St. Louis, Aliaune Thiam -- aka Akon -- grew up in Senegal before he and his family (including his father, jazz percussionist Mor Thiam) returned to the United States and settled in New Jersey when he was seven. There he discovered hip-hop for the first time, as well as crime. He was eventually jailed, but he used the time to work on his musical ideas. Upon release, Akon began writing and recording tracks in a home studio. The tapes found their way to SRC/Universal, which eventually released Trouble, Akon's debut LP, in June 2004. The album was an interesting hybrid of Akon's raps and silky, West African-styled vocals with East Coast- and Southern-styled beats. The success of the song "Locked Up" raised Akon's profile, and he followed up in the fall of 2006 with Konvicted. Soon enough, two of the album's singles, "I Wanna Love You" and "Smack That," had made their way to the upper regions of the Billboard charts. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan

Charkha is not more than an album; it's a labour of love for all involved to carry on the legacy of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's Charkha is the most haunting record in the market right now. Though the hype around it may not have built up because of the subtlety of the record, but now it seems to have filtered in and through and regularly features on the charts. It's been a slow burner but on first listen one can tell that this is a record that will burn long and gain strength. Charkha is classic in every sense of the term. The videos on music channels all over, 'Tere Bina' and 'Kanday Uttay', are only the tip of the ice berg here. Charkha is music to listen to in solitude, preferably with dim lighting. The reworking of Bullay Shah's 'Charkha' and Shah Hussain's 'Sainyaah' included, most songs on the album are a reworking of the qawwalis in Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's repertoire. The only original compositions are 'Tere Bina', 'Na Janay Kahan' and the unsurpassable 'Jiya Dhadak Dhadak Jaye' that became a superhit in India in 2005 when Mahesh Bhatt used it for the film Kalyug. Already a star in India after 'Mann Ki Lagan', 'Jiya Dhadak Dhadak Jaye' ensured that Rahat become a voice in demand across the border; beyond the realm of the Bhatt family. He sang 'Naina' for Vishal Bharadwaj's critically acclaimed Omkara (2006), 'Main Jahan Rahoon' for the surprise blockbuster Namastey London (2007) , 'Bol Na Halke Halke' for Yashraj Films Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (2007) , 'Jag Soona Soona Lage' for the Shahrukh Khan magnum opus Om Shanti Om (2007) and the haunting 'O Re Piya' for Madhuri's come back film Aaja Nachle (2007). Yet it is Charkha, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's solo album that is truly satisfying listening for the qawwali aficionado as well as for those who like trippy lounge music of the sort that Thievery Corporation and Buddha Bar records have made so popular amongst the party crowd looking to chill out to sounds that carry on from where the DJ leaves off.The sound of CharkhaCarefully constructed by Rohail Hyatt, Charkha is a sonic delight. The visual landscape reminds one of a desert in bloom. The musicality is sparse but tasteful (barring the remixes of 'Charkha' and 'Tere Bin', that gradually race thumping into a manic assaulting beat, but more on those later). The album opens with the sublime 'Charkha', that reworking one of the immortal kalams of Bulleh Shah, that puts a whole new spin on the phrase 'the wheel keeps on turning'. With the twang of a guitar occassionally interjecting the more consistent percussion that seems to be modelled on the clapping that traditionally accompanies a qawwali performance, Rahat's vocals build up to the chant 'Aaja Har Charkhe De Gheray Main Tainoon Yaad Kardi'. The sound is modern and yet familiar because the form of qawwali is not interfered with and that has been Rohail Hyatt's aim throughout the album."You can't mess with the form," Rohail resolutely maintained when he set out to do Charkha years ago.Rohail seems to have learned how Westerners worked with Rahat's illustrious uncle Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. There was Peter Gabriel's 'Mast Qalander' remix that burnt dance floor all over the world, but which remained an aberration for the true followers of qawwali and then there was Michael Brooks' interpretation of the Nusrat first in Mustt Mustt and then more noticeably in the super sublime album Night Songs that will never lose it's incredible replay value. Qawwali is music that you sink yourself into and let it seep in; even as electronica can make it more accessible to the modern world it is important that qawwali retain its essence, which is spiritual to the extent that it caused musician Jeff Buckley to famously comment "Nusrat is my Elvis".And this is precisely what Charkha does. It elevates Rahat to a whole new iconic level.

Pitbull On Punching Disruptive Fan: 'Natural Instinct Kicked In'

When making it rain goes wrong, Pitbull reacts. Amateur video of Pit onstage in Colorado recently hit the Net, showing the rapper punching out a fan. The scene starts with Pit entertaining the audience, when a man in the crowd started throwing money on the stage. Pit pulled the man onto the stage and he started throwing money in Pit's face, and Pitbull immediately knocked the guy down with a punch to the face.
"They don't show the whole clip of what happened," Pit told us Wednesday (May 27) of the video. "Before the song 'Bojangles,' I play a whole set and I only get three breaks. I was going into 'Bojangles' and this mutha----a had already made it rain, like, three times. He threw a gang of money in the air and I was scooting the money, giving it to the crowd. I didn't touch the money, but I was scooting it, giving it to the crowd."
Pit said he had enough and gave the guy a verbal warning from the stage.
"I told him, 'Look, dog, you already got three strikes. Don't make it rain no more. I'm telling you. I ain't gonna talk about it no more, I'm just gonna be about it. Don't do it no more,' " he recalled. "Boom, left it alone. I started 'Bojangles,' then about a minute later, he comes to the other side of the stage and throws money again."
From there, Pit actually extended his hand and pulled the man onstage.
"I'm bringing him onstage with no intention of doing nothing to him," he explained. "I'm bringing him onstage to say, 'Look, this the clown that's gonna f--- up your show. I'm getting rid of him. I'm letting y'all know right now. Don't nobody else make it rain.' When I bring the mutha----a up on the stage, he throws a wad of money in my face. When he did that, that's when natural reaction ... natural instinct kicked in."
Pit laid the guy out with one punch.
"No way, shape or form was that my intention. It was more like a reaction, self-defense," he explained. "Mind you, I've been in shows before and I done got hit with a bottle. Any time I see anything moving onstage, I'm cautious about it. You feel me? As soon as he threw that money, it was on from there."
The man was escorted out and the concert continued after Pit apologized to the crowd for the disturbance.
"That was the beginning of the show — five or eight minutes into the show," he said. "I have a hour-and-15-minute set. ... He made me feel [wild] like I felt back in the day. I'm in a profession now. I'm here to entertain. ... I heard he was a fan and he drove from a long way. When I saw the video, I said, 'Hell nah. He knew exactly what he was doing.' In any country when you throw something in somebody's face, it's disrespectful. When I looked at the tape, you could see he did that and was waiting like, 'What now? Yeah mutha----a, I just threw a wad in your face.' "
Fortunately for Pit's fans, the incident hasn't slowed him down — he has a slew of summer radio shows lined up for the next three months.

Britney Spears Shoots Fake Perfume Ad For Logo's NewNowNext Awards

Britney Spears already has a popular perfume line, but sales might skyrocket if her newest scent makes it into stores: a fragrance called 'Mo that carries the tantalizing tagline "One spray and the gays will run your way!"
Too bad 'Mo — and the video promoting it — is a spoof, part of the viral-marketing campaign for the Logo network's NewNowNext awards show. MTV News called up the brains behind the clip to get the inside scoop about how the project came together and why Brit decided to take part.

"She's having fun with her gay audience, because she's an official gay icon at such a young and tender age," said Christopher Willey, a Logo executive producer. (Logo and MTV are both owned by Viacom.)
Willey explained that the tone of the awards show is "very playful, irreverent, doesn't take it too seriously." When they decided to give their Always Next, Forever Now award to Spears, Willey approached the singer's label and management with the idea for the faux perfume ad.
"We [wanted] something that would be fun and playful that we can celebrate/mock, and we thought, 'It's her perfume career,' " Willey said. "Because everyone knows every holiday season they bring out those commercials of her running through a forest or a hotel."
Spears' people loved the idea, although Willey did have to explain the meaning of 'Mo, which is a term of endearment within the gay community. "Britney herself wanted to make sure that the punch line — which is the word 'Mo — wasn't offensive in any way," Willey said.
A spokesperson for Spears told MTV News the singer was not available for comment on the spoof.
Logo shot Britney's "One spray and the gays will run your way!" line on the Los Angeles set of her video for "If U Seek Amy" and filled in the rest with footage from music videos and a documentary. The package will open the NewNowNext show as an imaginary message from the program's sponsor.
The second annual awards show airs June 13 at 9 p.m. ET and will feature appearances by Lady Gaga, Vanessa Williams, castmembers from "The Real Housewives of New York City" and a musical performance by Eve. And, of course, Spears will be on hand to accept her award.

Pakistan Strings Band

Pakistan Strings Band:
Strings, as one music aficionado put it recently now fall into the category of "classic". This Strings fan is well into his 50s. With their melody, lyrics by Anwar Maqsood and a signature style that they have never veered from, Strings have become a listening habit in Pakistan. And they've penetrated so deep into our consciousness that they're not going anywhere. If Ali Azmat is about radical experimentation and newcomer Atif is all about hype, Strings are all about consistency and a mellow attitude that they have made uniquely their own. They are not about 'Garaj Baras' and are definitely not scratching their heads and wondering 'Hum Kis Gali Jaa Rahe Hain'? Faisal Kapadia and Bilal Maqsood are self assured, co-pilots of the enterprise that is the Strings and they're cruising along hitting all the right notes and that too all over the sub-continent!
You have released your new album, Koi Aanay Wala Hai, after a hiatus of 4 years. Why take such a long break? It usually takes us around three years each time. After Durr, it took us 3 years for Dhaani and now around 4 years for the new album. The main reason for such a delay was that we were doing a lot of concerts. We like to perform live songs from our album for our audience all over the world. Also, one needs to get into the mode of working on the new album. So we were making songs while we were touring and after the melodies were ready, we went into the studio to record them. We know it took us quite a while but we are happy with the results.
Describe Koi Aanay Wala Hai in your own words. We wanted to explore new avenues with it so that's why we wanted to have a new sound. A new sound doesn't mean that we are totally away from the Strings' sound but it's very important for us musicians to grow and that's what we have tried to achieve in this album. This is a positively hopeful album and has very uplifting songs. Earlier tracks such as Zinda, Akhri Alvida, Najane Kyoun and Beirut were very dark songs and as musicians, we wanted to go in a different direction. The lyrics in this album are amazing and you will also find a difference in arrangements. Koi Aanay Wala Hai has a very strong ”Strings” feel, but tracks like Aik Do Teen and Jago are very different. Then numbers like Titliyan, Kehdia, Humsafar and Sone Do have an entirely different feel to them. We wanted to try something new and we are thankful to God that we were able to achieve that.

Fall Out Boy Rock, Hand Out Octo-Drives On 'Today' Show

The guys in Fall Out Boy have always been multitaskers of the highest order (especially that Wentz guy), but even they might have outdone themselves this time.
On Friday (May 22), while they performed a tight three-song set on the "Today" show, they were also scanning the crowd for fans in homemade T-shirts, because two of those Fall Out fanatics would be walking away with one of those limited-edition FOB/ Mark Hoppus "Octo-Drives" they've been handing out in various clandestine ways (including getting MTV News in on the action).

We had people put their Twitter name [on a T-shirt] and give us the best reason for us to follow them on Twitter," Pete Wentz told "Today" host Matt Lauer in between performances. "And then we have a USB drive, and we're gonna pick two winners specifically from the show today. And who knows? They might get followed on Twitter."
That announcement drew squeals of joy from the crowd — most of whom were wearing Sharpie-marked white tees — and a rather puzzled look from Lauer. And then it was back to the performing: Fall Out Boy launched headlong into "What a Catch, Donnie," a subdued and pretty ballad that showcased frontman Patrick Stump's midrange and guitarist Joe Trohman's skillful picking.
That was about the only quiet moment of the entire performance, though. FOB also blasted through a pair of older hits — "Dance, Dance" and "Thnks fr th Mmrs" — which brimmed with energy: Wentz popping and locking (and pulling out some 360s) and drummer Andy Hurley mashing in chaotically measured beats. The crowd squealed with delight — and, per Wentz's Tweeted requests — they showered the "Today" show stage with their homemade T-shirts, so FOB could pick a pair of winners.

V Factory Debuts 'Love Struck' Video

Pop newcomers V Factory now have a slick new video to accompany the first single off their upcoming self-titled debut. In 'Love Struck,' directed by Scott Speer (who has worked with Ashley Tisdale, David Archuleta and Jordin Sparks), the five multi-talented singers show off their dance moves with a creepy slaughterhouse backdrop. "It looked like the set of a 'Saw' movie," Nathaniel Flatt tells PopEater. Fortunately they had their friends by their side. "The dancing scenes really were us jumping around with our best friends." We're sure they didn't mind the sexy Brazilian model, either.
